Greensteel Stick Chair 01

Blackened and waxed steel frame, smoked flat reed splint woven herringbone seat

The frame of this chair is made of rough angles of stock “cleaved” from 2” x 3/16” wall square tube with an angle grinder giving the new stock irregular and exaggerated natural edges. The welding is equally as casual, being done without squares and minimal clamping, allowing the metal to find its own level throughout the process. Weld beads are left on the finished frame and the seat is woven in place. The chair is meant to reference the process of greenwood chair building techniques, the primitive designs of Welsh stick chairs, and traditional American chair design.
